Advanced Imaging for Vein Disorders at IVIRA
At Integrated Vascular & Interventional Radiology Associates of Pittsburgh (IVIRA), we provide Peripheral Venous Venograms to help diagnose complex vein conditions affecting the legs, arms, and other peripheral areas. This minimally invasive imaging test allows our team to visualize the structure and function of your veins in real-time—providing the insights needed for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment planning.
What Is a Peripheral Venous Venogram?
A Peripheral Venous Venogram is a fluoroscopy-guided procedure that uses contrast dye and X-ray imaging to assess the veins in your extremities. It helps detect:
-
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT)
-
Chronic venous insufficiency
-
Vein blockages or narrowing
-
Abnormal vein anatomy
-
Post-thrombotic syndrome
-
Evaluation prior to varicose vein or venous stent procedures
If ultrasound doesn’t provide enough detail, or if your symptoms are complex, a venogram offers a deeper look into venous structure and flow patterns.
Why Choose IVIRA for Your Venogram?
Located in Pittsburgh, PA, IVIRA offers the region’s most advanced vascular imaging in a comfortable outpatient setting. Our board-certified interventional radiologists perform venograms with a focus on precision, safety, and patient-centered care.

What to Expect During the Procedure
The procedure typically lasts 30–60 minutes. A small catheter is inserted into a vein—often in the foot, ankle, or groin—and contrast dye is gently injected. As the dye flows through the veins, real-time X-rays capture detailed images for analysis.
This test is often combined with other vascular procedures, such as:
-
Venous angioplasty
-
Stent placement
-
Thrombectomy
-
Sclerotherapy or ablation planning
Recovery & Results
After the procedure, patients are monitored for a short time and usually return home the same day. Normal activities can typically be resumed within 24 hours. Our team at IVIRA will review your images with you and collaborate with your referring physician or specialist to determine the next steps in your care.
