What Is a Peripheral Arterial Angiogram?
A Peripheral Arterial Angiogram is a diagnostic procedure that uses a contrast dye and real-time X-ray imaging (fluoroscopy) to visualize the blood flow in your peripheral arteries. This test is crucial in evaluating conditions like:
-

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD)
 -

Claudication (leg pain with walking)
 -

Non-healing wounds or ulcers
 -

Suspected blockages or narrowing (stenosis)
 -

Critical limb ischemia

What to Expect During the Procedure
The procedure typically lasts 30 to 60 minutes and is performed under light sedation. A small catheter is inserted into the artery (usually in the groin), and contrast dye is used to highlight any narrowed or blocked arteries. Images are taken in real-time to assess the extent of disease and guide treatment, if necessary.
Depending on your condition, the angiogram may be followed by:
-

Angioplasty
 -

Stent placement
 -

Thrombolysis or other intervention

After Your Peripheral Angiogram
After the angiogram, you’ll be monitored in our recovery area for a few hours. Most patients go home the same day and can resume light activities within 24 hours.
